Security strategy and governance
Assess the current position, clarify appetite for risk and shape a proportionate roadmap that leadership can sponsor and delivery teams can use.
You may need CISO-level judgement without a permanent appointment, or experienced leadership during a transition. I help organisations understand their cyber exposure, establish clear priorities and give accountable direction to the teams delivering change.

A fractional CISO is not simply an occasional security review. The value comes from having a senior adviser who can question assumptions, support leadership decisions and maintain a coherent direction across people, technology and suppliers.
The scope should match the organisation's needs. It may be a defined period of interim leadership, a regular advisory commitment or a time-bound security transformation programme. The aim is practical oversight, not creating unnecessary process.
Assess the current position, clarify appetite for risk and shape a proportionate roadmap that leadership can sponsor and delivery teams can use.
Translate vulnerabilities, incidents, third-party dependencies and control weaknesses into clear exposure, decisions and priorities.
Help teams establish owners, realistic sequencing and evidence of progress across control improvement and security programmes.
Challenge whether response plans, recovery assumptions, external providers and assurance activities are workable rather than merely documented.
My background spans IT leadership, specialist cyber security consultancy and oversight of assessment and remediation work. I have founded and led a specialist cyber security firm, and supported security risk and transformation activity in complex industrial and manufacturing environments.
That combination matters: effective CISO leadership requires enough technical depth to challenge evidence, but also the ability to make risks understandable, negotiate priorities and maintain accountability.

The first step is agreeing the leadership gap and the decisions that need support. Depending on scope, an engagement may include:
These are examples of possible outputs, not a fixed package. Responsibilities, availability, reporting and deliverables are agreed for each engagement.
Fractional support usually provides ongoing leadership on an agreed part-time basis. Interim support typically fills a defined leadership gap or carries responsibility through a period of transition. The level of involvement should reflect the organisation's risks and available internal capability.
Not usually. The role is to provide direction, executive challenge and accountable oversight, while working with the people who operate the systems and implement improvements.
We start with the business decision, leadership gap or change programme that needs support, then agree the expected outcomes, stakeholders and an appropriate level of involvement.
Tell me a little about the organisation, the decision you need to make and the timescale. We can discuss the right scope for independent advisory support.
